Undergraduate Majors
What is the major about?
The biology degree is designed to provide you with a strong general foundation in the life sciences, broadly ranging from molecular biology to ecosystems. Coursework includes foundational training in evolutionary biology as well as the biological diversity of plants, animals, or both. As our department’s most flexible major, the degree has diverse elective options that allow for specialization in different areas of biology and/or appropriate preparation for graduate school or professional school.

What can I do with my degree?
The biology major can prepare you for post-graduate study in a wide variety of sub disciplines in biology (molecular biology, genetics, ecology, evolutionary biology, conservation biology, etc.), as well as for medical, dental, or other professional schools. You may also choose to pursue employment with your bachelor’s degree as a biologist in state and federal agencies, nongovernment organizations, or research laboratories.
